Isolation is the ultimate comfort. You sit with your ideas and firmly held views of the world and ruminate. Soon you fancy yourself both emperor and victim of all that was and all that shall be – those two opposing points of view perfectly uniting to defeat whatever’s left of you and your creative identity.

THE DECLARATIVE PARAGRAPH
What I regret most about not having a literate father was that I had no one to teach me how to write a declarative sentence. Instead, my sentences meander too much; ask too many questions, all in desperate search of some sort of parental approval.

TO BE AN ARTIST
Artists are only happy when they work. When worldly success visits the artist, there is a momentary jolt, its effect not unlike crack cocaine. But you can't stay high forever (though some try) and soon it's back to chopping wood and carrying water. Like Sisyphus, condemned by the Gods to push his rock up the hill for eternity, the artist's pain is full of personal meaning in a meaningless universe.

OPINIONS
I saw a homeless man the other day and certainly I had an opinion about his living conditions. And that’s how it starts; it is subtle, but deadly. I start with one opinion which I think I’m entitled to, and then another, and another, until I am entirely removed from the present moment. Acting and writing have been my only connections to reality.
